You will be picked up from your hotel in Kandy by a tuk-tuk to visit the first temple is Embekke.
Embekke Devalaya
Embekke Devalaya is a wooden temple situated near Kandy. It was built in the 14th century by King Wickremabahu III. Embekke is famous for the intricately patterned wooden pillars of its bigger. Each pillar had a different pattern carved into each of its four sides. The woodwork utilized for the “Drummers’ Hall” where originally the Hewisi drums and trumpets were played during the ceremonies.
Lankathilaka Temple
Your next temple is the Lankathilaka temple. You will stop on the way at a plantation to take in the sights and smells of how coffee, tea, and pepper are all grown side by side. Lankathilaka, considered as the most magnificent architectural monument to be built during the Gampola era, was built at the crest of a large rock named Panhalgala overlooking the Hantane mountain range in the Hiripitiya hamlet in Udunuwara.
Gadaladeniya Temple
Enjoy a tuk-tuk ride through paddy fields and reach the next temple Gadaladeniya. That famous for its beautiful stone carvings, this temple was built on a flat rock at Diggala in the 14th Century by Gampola’s King Bhuvanekabahu IV. This Buddhist temple with a Hindu extension is a similar age to the Lankatilake temple and the Embekka Devale, the temple exhibits a combination of South Indian and Sinhalese architecture styles.
Ranawana Temple
Ranawana Temple is the world’s tallest walking Buddha statue and one of the most beautiful temples of Sri Lanka. An 80-foot tall statue stands as if it were a Buddha in real life and showing how Buddhism is closely linked with nature. Ranawana Viharaya has an amazing trail into the evergreen forest through rocks and trees. It gives you a feeling that you are visiting a temple and a natural landscape at the same time.
Nelligala International Buddhist Center
Your final temple is Nelligala International Buddhist Center. It situated on top of a mountain and a popular place for sightseeing visitors due to its sheer beauty an amazing view of the surrounding landscape. You can spend more time to relax here and have the opportunity to see the magnificent sunset.
Visiting all five temples with a tuk-tuk will take about 5 hours. The best time to visit is in the afternoon.
