Wilpattu is one of the largest National Parks in Sri Lanka. The unique feature of this park is the existence of “Willus” (Natural lakes) – Natural, sand-rimmed water basins or depressions that fill with rainwater. It has many species of birds & animals in it. Wilpattu is the best location to see Leopards.

Varying natural habitats; coastal belt, natural lakes (villus), rocky outcrops, scrublands, open grasslands, and dense forests provide for numerous species of animals. Among the species are 31 mammals. The biggest draws in Wilpattu are Leopards and Sloth Bears. Apart from those two mammals are Asian Elephants, Spotted Deer, Barking Deer, jackals, sambhur, barking deer, mouse deer Wild Pig, Water Buffalo, and Mugger Crocodiles.

Butterflies recorded include the Great Eggfly, Blue Mormon, Common Mormon, Common Rose Great Orange Tip, Glad-eye Bushbrown, Blue Mormon, Common Mormon, Common Rose, and Crimson Rose. Countless species of birds can be found and the park hosts numerous winter migrants from November to March, while menacing crocodiles top the list of reptiles. Also roaming on the grasslands are Star tortoises at Wilpattu. In the large Villus are the Pond turtle and the Soft-shelled turtle.

We organize and arrange your Wilpattu safari experience from Anuradhapura, your convenience as Morning Safari and Afternoon safari.

Initial meeting with the 4restlanka tour guide and vehicle, a brief of the tour will take place at the entrance to the Wilpattu Safari. For the morning half-day tour, the starting time will be at 6 a.m. while the afternoon tour begins at 2.30 p.m.

After entering the national park with your guide in a jeep, you will be able to spot several species of birds and other animals that have made their homes in this sanctuary. The guide will explain about the various interesting attributes as you will learn and enjoy the flora and fauna of Wilpattu.
